Nurturing Students,
Inspiring Dreams

A lower school dance programme bursting with imagination and excitement. Designed to stimulate your child’s mind, strengthen co-ordination, develop motor skills, social interaction and build confidence. We love to teach our young dancers that they should aim high, dream big and can achieve anything they set their little minds too.

Our lower school dance programme is all inclusive, extremely stimulating and most importantly buzzing with fun and positive energy.

Bopping Bees (1-2 years)

Our Bopping Bees classes are where your son or daughters dance journey will begin, they are led by one of our amazing pre-school teacher, Miss Steph.

The Bopping Bees classes are 45 minutes long. The first 15-20 minutes will be a teacher led session, including dance, movement, singing of nursery rhymes, age-appropriate action songs and varied props. The session is stimulating, lots of fun and very interactive between Miss Steph, you and the children.

Whether your child is walking, standing or crawling they will still be able to join in with all the activities. Our main aim is to develop their love of music and their natural rhythm and start to work on their co-ordination and motor skills.

After the teacher led movement and music session then children are then all encouraged to free play and socialise for 20 minutes on our soft play equipment and with the toys provided. Parents/guardians can stay in the studio, grab a coffee and have a chat with other mums during the free play time whilst watching your little one makes new friends.

We finish the class with our goodbye song each week which brings everyone back together before the class ends.

When your little one turns 2 years old, they can move up into our Budding Bees class to continue the next step of their dancing journey.

Young children have a natural affinity with movement- even before birth, the very first thing they respond to is the rhythm of their mother’s heartbeat and the music of her voice. Babies sing before they can talk and dance before they can walk.

Budding Bees (2-3 years)

This 30-minute dance class is designed for children from 2-3 years and their Mummy/Daddy or carer to come and enjoy music and movement together. This magical class will help your child develop their confidence, co-ordination, rhythm, their love of music, spatial awareness and explore feelings, words, sounds and relationships with others. Through imaginative adventures your child will learn the basics of ballet through jumping, skipping, twirling and galloping with the security of you by their side.

Loveable teddy, Bumble the Bee is the focus point of our Budding Bees classes and all Bumble’s activities, stories, ideas and dreams can be told through dance and movement.

We ask that each of the children bring their own bear or dolly to each class as we use these within the class also.

When our Budding bees turn 3 years old they can progress into our Bouncing Bees Pre School class where parents can now have a coffee break whilst their little dancer continues to grow in confidence and will enjoy the combination class of ballet, tap and modern for 1 hour.

Bouncing Bees (Pre-school Ballet, Tap & Modern)

    Pre-School (1 hour)

In our Bouncing Bees classes, we now see the introduction of tap and modern whilst continuing to develop their basic ballet skills.
Your child will grow in independence as they begin to dance individually and in partners without you by their side, and in our pre school bouncing bees class this is all in preparation for getting them ready and confident for big school.

Through varied props and age-appropriate songs, they will continue to use their imagination & creativity and explore the world around them through our themed topics.

These carefully designed combination classes means from an early age the children can distinguish the difference between the styles and it adds variety to the classes.

The class teaches the children to hear and move to different types of music, how to stand in various formations such as circles and lines and perform basic dance movements so they can express themselves freely as individuals. Designed to increase co-ordination within the children and build their confidence, and social skills. This class is a lovely way for children to make other friends besides their school friends.

Benefits of becoming a Sophie Dee Bumble Bee

    • It is scientifically proven that dance helps social bonding. In our bopping and budding bees classes we encourage parents and carers to play, dance and interact with their little one, which in turn will help to build a sense of wellbeing and a strong bond which is so important.
    • Dance encourages confidence and wellbeing.
    • Developing communication skills.
    • It develops creativity, our bumble bees are encouraged to be creative and think independently. In an ever-changing world, the ability to adapt and think creatively is essential.
    • Dancing has cognitive benefits. Dance connects with the emotional centres of the brain. As a result, it produces more endorphins, boosts happiness, increases spatial awareness and improves creative-thinking patterns.
    • Dancing is the best way to learn. The first years of life are a vital period for early brain development, 90% of a childs brain development happens before the age of five. Movement is the gateway for all learning during the first five years of life because sensory, motor and social development precede language and logic skills. Children learn by playing and doing. Dance, in particular, integrates kinesthetic learning with understanding. Our classes creatively build children’s strength, balance and coordination, encouraging healthy physical age-appropriate development. Research shows that children who are active in early childhood are more likely to be active later in life.
    • Its so much fun. Our magical termly themed topics engage and inspire everyone, we love seeing the smiles on their faces as we ignite their imaginations and transport them to far off places.
    • become part of the Sophie Dee community, a very special place to be, your children will be inspired by the students in our main school, and they will automatically move into our main school for all of their subjects when they turn 7.

What if my child doesn’t settle
or join in on their first lesson?

Do not worry! This is exactly why our trial period is 4 weeks.
Within 4 classes we are confident that we can make your little one not only feel settled, but to also see the start of new friendships blossoming and for them to feel really at home in our studios.

Their first classes may seem daunting, and it isn’t unusual for the children to hide behind their parent’s legs or go the other way and run around full of energy and excitement, please don’t worry, we have seen it all.

They will eventually get used to the structure of the class and their confidence will grow over the weeks to come. Once they have settled in (usually around week 3 or 4) they will start joining in and listening and following all instructions.

Please don’t force or put pressure on your child to join in, gently encourage him or her to take part and with yours and our encouragement we will have them happily dancing in no time and looking forward to their dancing classes each week, which is what it is all about.
